Plants that remove toxins and produce oxygen

Fresh Air is Healthy Air - Clean your air naturally!

Back in 1989, NASA done a study on ways to purify Air in enclosed areas, such as all famous Space Station. Following this study, has led to other research about plants that filter air naturally, also removing particular toxins in the air.

With a little research on your behalf mixed with a little no-how, you too can benefit from this great benefit or cleaning the Air in your home. So if you are an avid gardener or just starting out here are a small list of plants that will Filter your home for the cost of a little love.

1.A popular one amongst the plant lovers would be the Spider Plant (above), now that doesn't mean there are spiders living in it, for its versatility, easy maintenance and propagation. Spider plants are tough and mighty, they can thrive in many environments indoors as longs as they are kept away from direct sunlight. So ensure they are in a cosy place, with filter or artificial light and they will get to work straight away.  The spider plants are powerful at removing formaldehyde, toluene and xylene all chemicals found in synthetic fabrics, paints and glues. They have also been proved to lower carbon monoxide levels too.

2. Snake Plant or also known as the Mother in-law's Tongue - Whilst there is much debate on this one, the facts are clear. These perform really well indoors with very little love and the occasional wipe down to keep them free of dust. With its unique colours, twist and strange correlation to the tongue shape, this is a powerful plant to have anywhere in the home to cleanse your air and remove the nasty toxins. Hardy and can tolerate neglect the Mother in-law's tongue It’s also very effective at eliminating airborne formaldehyde, nitrogen oxide, benzene, xylene and trichloroethylene, and just about all chemicals that can often be found in carpets, glues, paint and other interior fittings.

3. Aloe Vera - The plant that not only cleans your air, looks awesome and has medicinal properties, this one is not to be missed. The Aloe Vera, is a superstar amongst the plant families, not only does it clean the air and produce oxygen, it's robust and tolerant enough for any position in your home. Drought tolerant and tough for many environments this one will be sure to thrive no matter the level of skill you have in the garden. The Aloe Vera plant absorbs VOCs often found in newly laid flooring, paint and glue, it takes in carbon dioxide and produces oxygen at night making it ideal for bedrooms in particular.

These are my three favourites, however there are countless varieties out there for your home or office. As per the study that NASA performed in 1989, they recommend 2 good sized plants per room, (approx 9m2) however I say the more the better, who doesn't want to breath fresh air?

There you have it the simply and basic start to bring the best air purifiers into your place.
Have an awesome day and DIG IN!
