Living in Australia we have fantastic reasons to be planting fruit trees in your yards and gardens. Given our fabulous climate all year round you can grow many varieties to see fruit all year.


If you are looking at buying or even starting out planting fruit trees at your home then check out the following reasons.


Whilst there are countless varieties available through Australia, from the regular through to exotic species, they all hold great benefits and should form part of your garden.


Benefits of Fruit Trees around your Home?


  1. Well this is most likely the most obvious reason.... FOOD! Fruit trees make FOOD.. You get to enjoy the delicious taste of your fruit growing in your own back yard. With a little care and maintenance your trees can provide an abundance of fresh fruit to feed not just your family but the extended family as well. What could be better than home grown fresh fruit full of rich nutrients at your back door.
  2. With all the worry and hype of environmental impact such as global warming, CO2 emissions etc. what's a better way than to reduce your carbon footprint by planting Fruit Tree's. The benefits of planting Fruit trees in your garden will not only reduce your carbon footprint, but also create a cooler environment as a whole. In addition; they filter your air! that's right, they clean the air and create oxygen. Further, Shade from your fruit tree's will also save on cooling costs, if planted in the right position they can provide shade to your home keeping the scorching summer sun at bay.
  3. The next Reason is debatable, however in most circumstances growing fruit tree's increase your property value. Whilst this is a debated topic, to the right buyer established fruit tree's will give you a nice little boost when it comes to selling your property.
  4. Diverse variety - with the amount of species there is Fruit tree options in abundance. From dwarf varieties suited to pots and tree's for full blown orchards. So depending on your circumstances, if you live in a unit or on acreage there are Fruit Trees to suit you. Not a green thumb! that's ok too there will be Fruit tree's that will thrive.
  5. Native Animals - While we get to benefit from our fruit trees, with the delicious taste of home grown food, cooling environment of their shade and sweet smelling flowers and aromas, I feel that one of the biggest benefits is for native animals. Not only are we feeding ourselves, we are creating a habitat for all kinds of animals and insects, from our busy Bee's to ground dwelling critters eating the fallen fruit. Having an abundance of flowering tree's will bring all types of beautiful wildlife to your home.


Whilst these are only a very few Benefits, with very little work you can create a bustling environment in your yard that not only will give you endless supply of food, will bring many associated benefits to your home and family. Until next time!
