Majority of research shows that gardening is beneficial to your health, so here are my few thoughts on the subject, and feel free to share yours please!

  1. Healthy Eating and fresh food - we all know the benefits of eating healthy unprocessed food and the benefit on the body and mind by eating such food. Gardening and growing your own food is not only stimulating and rewarding to enjoy the fruits of your labor you are also feeding you body an abundance of nutrients and studies out there have shown that nutritious fresh food has positive effects on your mood!
  2. Exercise and Fitness - Gardening can be physically demanding, however depending how you start and setup of your garden, it can have a major effect on this. However this is a good thing! even the smallest garden needs maintenance, and this is exercise, yes you read that right. Having a garden is not only beautiful to your home and a place to retreat too, it gives you exercise and can improve your fitness. We have all heard that fitness is good for the body and mind and exercise reduces stress and so on, so instead of slogging the footpath for hours, why not spend that time building and maintaining your garden and reap the benefits of the physical fitness and rewarding results!
  3. Mental Health - Firstly i am not a Phycologist but have read many studies on gardens and mental health. So please research this subject as it is very interesting. My thoughts are Gardens of all types are great for the ones mental health, so do forget to take the time and sit and watch and see your gardens and the life that they bring to your home. Sitting and watching and just being present in the moment is great as it takes away the focus of day to day stresses and allows you to relax, perhaps create a mediation or quiet spot where you can go and be with nature.

There are my Three dot points of the benefits of gardening, with such great benefits to your health what is there not to love!. No you don't have to be a green thumb or be a great horticulturist to do this, just be and do it. There will be times that plants die, or your mint takes over every inch of space that you have but this is the fun of it! Acceptance of the situation and watching how things grow is a fabulous experience! Love the moment and share the experiences.

So find a spot and Just start, take your time and keep a slow pace that is good for you.
